One Tent Health
About
Washington, DC is in the midst of an HIV epidemic. Launched in October 2017, One Tent Health partners with local grocery and convenience stores in DC's highest-risk neighborhoods and pops up with a canvas tent and hundreds of passionate student volunteers to provide free HIV screening. One Tent Health aims to minimize the stress and complexity of the path from unknown status to managed care with a community-centered, low-cost approach. In addition, One Tent Health strives to not only find new cases of HIV but also link individuals with resources to reduce their risk of contracting HIV by providing PrEP education and by linking individuals to free condom distribution centers, needle exchange programs, and Medicaid enrollment services. UMD One Tent Health will create a community of student volunteers on UMD’s campus that will involve students with one of the foremost public health issues in our community and reduce the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
