Food Recovery Network
About
The Food Recovery Network (FRN) is a student-run volunteer group at the University of Maryland dedicated to picking up surplus food from the university's dining halls, athletic venues, and catering kitchen, and delivering it to community partners that provide meals for hungry men, women, and children in the Washington, D.C. area. By intercepting and donating perfectly good food that would otherwise be going to waste, the Food Recovery Network: 1. Gives back to the local community by providing thousands of meals to those who need it most. 2. Engages a diverse array of students, staff, faculty, and administrators to build a community around the service we do. 3. Helps to make the University of Maryland a leader in sustainability by taking a vital step towards zero waste. The Food Recovery Network partners with a variety of student groups (including but not limited to: Alpha Phi Omega, CIVICUS, MSA, PhiDE, DEM, and AMSA) and individual volunteers who each help out on different nights of the week. The FRN also works very closely with Dining Services and the Office of Sustainability and we appreciate their generous support.
